During the first of the COVID lockdowns in the UK, I found the social isolation difficult to deal with. One of my responses was to begin to develop my 'Caras' style of merged and demerged faces.
The faces represent the collective trauma of enforced isolation and loneliness with the weekly coming together of everybody to clap for the NHS. The limited colour palette is that of the British flag, but also includes the addition of gold from the Filipino flag as a rememberence to the Filipino caregivers and nurses who died in service during the pandemic.
